The Matrix Reloaded was released in May 2003 following up from the original 4 years later. It runs for 138 minutes and is also directed by the Wachowski sisters.

Its critical reception is slightly less glowing than the first movie currently holding a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 7.2 on IMDB, and a 62 on MetaCritic.

While the group have an impressive weaponry at their disposal, and they are all quite skilled, they are matched by the relentless attacks of the machine.

We watch Neo as he is struggling to escape limbo, so he can return and save the struggling human race. We see the climax of the conflict against the villainous program Agent Smith as this trilogy reaches its conclusion.

The Matrix Resurrections

Movie Details

The long awaited return to the Matrix movie series was released in December of 2021 and runs for a much shorter run time than its previous entries at only 90 minutes. It also departs from the rest of the series by being directed by just Lana Wachowski.

This movie is generally better received than the finale of the trilogy, but not better than the first two entries. It has 63% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 5.7 on IMDB, and a 63 on MetaCritic.

Jesse Stone is a beloved character from a book series by author Robert B. Parker, many of which have also been adapted into a range of movies starring Tom Selleck.

Jesse Stone is a detective, which always makes for great books and movies. Once an LAPD homicide detective, he was fired from that job due to his alcohol problems.

Jesse Stone Movies In Order Ultimate Viewing Guide

He now lives in a New England town called Paradise, where he is the police chief and continues to solve mysteries and murders.

So far, there are 9 Jesse Stone movies, with a tenth reportedly on the way at some point. In our ultimate guide, we’re going to tell you the order of the Jesse Stone movies in two different ways.

Firstly, we’re going to order the Jesse Stone movies chronologically, listing them in order of when their individual stories are set.

Secondly, we’re going to give you the order of the Jesse Stone movies in order of when they were each released. Read on!

Jesse Stone Movies In Chronological Order

This is the order that the Jesse Stone movies fall into when you look at them chronologically, which means ordering them by when each of their stories were set.

The order is mostly the same as when they were released, though you will see that the second Jesse Stone movie that was made was actually set before the first one.

  • JS: Night Passage (2006, released after “Stone Cold”, but set before)
  • JS: Stone Cold (2005)
  • JS: Death In Paradise (2006)
  • JS: Sea Change (2007)
  • JS: Thin Ice (2009)
  • JS: No Remorse (2010)
  • JS: Innocents Lost (2011)
  • JS: Benefit Of The Doubt (2012)
  • JS: Lost In Paradise (2015)

Jesse Stone Movies In Release Date Order

Now that we’ve looked at the order of the Jesse Stone movies in the order of when they are individually set, we can look at how the movies are ordered in terms of when they came out.

Below is a list of when the Jesse Stone movies were released, in order from earliest to latest.

  • JS: Stone Cold (2005)
  • JS: Night Passage (2006)
  • JS: Death In Paradise (2006)
  • JS: Sea Change (2007)
  • JS: Thin Ice (2009)

Jesse Stone Movies: A Deeper Look

Jesse Stone Movies A Deeper Look

With those two orders covered, it’s worth looking at what actually happens in each Jesse Stone movie. In the section below, we’re going to look at each of the nine Jesse Stone movies, describing the plot and noting the cast.

Stone Cold (Jesse Stone — 2005)

This was the very first Jesse Stone movie that was made, adapted from the Jesse Stone book series by author Robert B. Parker. Interestingly, “Stone Cold” was the fourth novel in the Jesse Stone book series.

The film focuses on Jesse Stone, a police chief for a small fictional town named Paradise in New England. Stone used to be a homicide detective for the LAPD in Los Angeles, but started to suffer a drinking problem when his wife left him.

He still struggles with his alcohol now, and still continues to have a complicated relationship with his ex-wife, Jenn.

This first movie sees Jesse Stone investigating a string or murders that have all happened in the same manner. Stone manages to trace the killers, but doesn’t have enough evidence to nail them and get them behind bars. Nevertheless, he keeps trying.

Night Passage (Jesse Stone — 2006)

The second movie to be released in the Jesse Stone movie series, “Night Passage” and its story is actually sety before “Stone Cold”.

The plot of this Jesse Stone movie focuses on how Stone came to be given his job in the New England town of paradise, and how his career there began.

The movie opens with Stone waiting to sober up in Santa Monica, before doing the long drive to Paradise in Massachusetts.

The movie sees Stone struggle to win over his new team of police officers, all the while battling his alcoholism and his difficult relationship with his ex-wife.

Also at the same time is a fresh crime case for him to solve, regarding an instance of domestic abuse that involves a man with mob ties.

The case is difficult enough until Stone’s police chief predecessor is murdered, complicating matters further.

Death In Paradise (Jesse Stone — 2006)

The third entry in the Jesse Stone movie series, this sees Stone investigating a teenage girl’s dead body that’s been found at a lake.

This case takes an especially complicated and unique twist when Stone gets mixed in with the high-class company of a top-selling author who exploits teens that are troubled, as well as the murky underworld of a mobster from Boston.

The mystery is engrossing, with plenty of shady characters for Stone to come across.

Sea Change (Jesse Stone — 2007)

The fourth entry in the Jesse Stone movie series, this sees Jesse Stone taking on a brand new criminal case.

This time, the plot is all about the murder of a bank teller. The murder is unsolved, with the teller being shot in a bank robbery. At the same time, Stone also has to investigate a case of alleged rape.

This case puts Stone into tension with Paradise’s town council, because the town has a reputation for being an ideal resort by the sea.

The nasty criminal case threatens to ruin that reputation, putting even more stress and weight onto Jesse Stone’s shoulders.

Tom Selleck’s portrayal of Jesse Stone really went from strength to strength with this installment in the series, with critical acclaim and awards nominations lauding praise onto the actor.

Thin Ice (Jesse Stone — 2009)

The fifth movie featuring police chief Jesse Stone, this sees the experienced and hardneed character facing up to a brand new mystery.

The crime in question this time is all to do with a kidnapped child. A mysterious letter has been directed to a kidnapped child’s mother, and Stone sets out to find the kid – although they’d previously been declared dead.

However, at the same time, Stone is under the watch of the Paradise town council. This is

because he was in a shootout that resulted in the injury of a colleague.

No Remorse (Jesse Stone — 2010)

The sixth in the series of Jesse Stone movies, and sees a major shakeup for Stone.

Stone has been suspended by the Paradise town council after the events of the previous film. When we first meet him in this movie, he has sunken into loneliness and further alcoholism due to the suspension. He isn’t allowed to communicate with his former police subordinates, which is why he’s grown so reclusive.

However, a bunch of murders that have occured in Boston cause a police collegaue to ask Stone for help. Stone acts as a private consultant on the murder case, getting to solve murders and musteries once again, although with arguably less power and influence.

At the same time, Stone also solves a case of assaults. He does this with some help from Emily, who is the sister of the muder victim from a previous Stone movie, “Death In Paradise”.

Innocents Lost (Jesse Stone — 2011)

“Innocents Lost” is the seventh movie in the Jesse Stone movie series, with an all new criminal case for Stone to get to the bottom of.

At this point in the overall, progressing story of Jesse Stone, he is no longer the chief of police for the town of Paradise. His suspension in the previous movie has stuck, and Stone is replaced as police chief by somebody else.

The somebody in question is William Butler, the son in law of the town council’s president. However, Stone continues to investigate criminal cases, creating a tension between him and Butler.

One of the cases that Stone investigates is about a murder inbvolving an old friend that he hasn’t spoken to for many years.

The other case, meanwhile, is about tracking down a murder and robbery suspect. Stone performs this second case as a consulting investigator for the Massachusetts State Police Homicide Division.

Benefit Of The Doubt (Jesse Stone — 2012)

This is the eighth movie in the Jesse Stone series.

Things are shaken up once again for Jesse, as he is brought back into his old position as chief of police for the fictional town of Paradise, New England.

The reason for his return, after his compulsory retirement and stint as a private investigator, is because his police chief replacement has been blown up and killed in a police car.

Stone must solve the crime of who killed the chief of police, William Butler, as well as officer DeAngelo who was with him.

It’s a mystery that will take him through corruption and drug kingpins, with a string of seemingly-unrelated clues that Stone will have to piece together to find the truth. Thankfully, Stone is the best person for that job!

Lost In Paradise (Jesse Stone — 2015)

This is the ninth entry in the Jesse Stone movie series, and so far the last. However, a tenth film is said to be on the way at some point, with Tom Selleck confirming it.

This particular Jesse Stone movie is all about a serial killer, making it one of the darker entries in the movie series. Stone, still chief of police for the small fictional town of Paradise, consults with the Massachusetts State Police again.

This time, he takes interest in a case that involves a serial killer. However, he soon finds that there is a lot more to the case than he initially thought, with plenty of twists and mysterious turns.

What Jesse Stone Books Are There?

After looking at the movies, you might be wondering how many Jesse Stone novels there are.

Well, there are nine novels written by the original creator of Jesse Stone, Robert B. Parker. Unfortunately, though, Parker died in 2010, a month before his ninth Stone book.

As a result, the series was continued by other writers. Michael Brandman wrote three more Jesse Stone mystery novels, while Reed Farrel Coleman then took over and wrote a further six. After that, Mike Lupica took over in 2020, and has written one Jesse Stone novel so far.

Will There Be Another Jesse Stone Movie?

Jesse Stone actor Tom Selleck has said that there are plans to make a tenth Jesse Stone movie. Selleck himself has actually written for six of the nine Jesse Stone movies, and will likely be penning the next one too.

Interestingly, he expects the next JS mystery to premiere on a different platform to previous ones – meaning that it might be more adult.

Final Thoughts

The Mythica movie franchise is not the most well known of movie franchises, however it is always worth acknowledging that popularity does not equate quality.

If you are on the lookout for more overlooked and perhaps underrated action adventure movies, then the Mythica series is definitely worth considering.

Mythica Movies In Order

If you are a fan of Lord Of The Rings, these movies have often been compared to this series with their feel and atmosphere. If you want a new fantasy world to become involved with, there is almost no better choice than the Mythica movies.

However, if you are new to the series or are returning after not having watched the series for an extended period of time, you may be wondering how to watch the movies and what order they are in.

This guide is here to help you work your way through the series, so you know where to begin and where to go from there.

So, if you are looking to watch the Mythica movies and do not know where to start, this guide is perfect for you!

The Order Of The Mythica Movies

Mythica: A Quest for Heroes (2014)

This first movie in the Mythica series, this follows the lead character Marek played by Melanie Stone who is stuck living a life as a servant but dreams of instead being a wizard.

Marek ends up meeting the princess Teela who is played by Nicola Posener and is in need of her help. This leads to Marek escaping her servitude and teaming up with Teela.

They unite to battle ogres and orcs who are responsible for kidnapping the princesses’ sister and have kept her in the mountains.

The pair soon realize that they are no match and instead by use their powers to be able to save the prisoners as well as get out of the situation alive.

Mythica: The Darkspore (2015)

The sequel to the original shows Marek teaming up with a new group after Teela’s sister from the first movie has been murdered as well as a dangerous weapon having been stolen.

The character called Kishkumen who is played by Ryan Palmer is a mystic from a foreign land, and he is aiming to claim Darkspore, the dangerous weapon, in the name of his master called Szorlok played by Matthew Mercer.

This pits Marek against Kishkumen now being in a race against each other to find and claim the Darkspore for themselves and not let the other have it.

To make the stakes even more dire, Marek is also being hunted down by bounty hunters as they are trying to make her return to a life of slavery.

Mythica: The Necromancer

The next movie in the Mythica series again follows Marek as she needs to lead her team to be able to beat and destroy a corrupted group of Thieves who have formed a guild together.

They do this because the Thieves Guild have taken one of her close friends as a hostage and this is the only way to save them!

Of course with movies like this, the plan does not go as intended, and they are instead led towards their greatest enemy and the most powerful evil, Szorlok who was introduced in the previous movie.

This leads to a final showdown between the warring factions over claiming the Darkspore.

Mythica: The Iron Crown (2016)

This movie once again follows Marek, now battle hardened after the many journeys she has shared with her team, we see her finally claim the last piece of the weapon Darkspore to save it from falling into the wrong hands.

Now she must go on a quest to instead return it to the gods, so they are able to keep it safe instead of having people fight over it.

However, it is never that simple and mercenaries are chasing down Marek on her journey as her and the Darkspore are an impressive bounty. The stakes are high and if they lose Szorlok will have the Darkspore and unleash his army.

Mythica: The Godslayer

The most recent movie in the Mythica series, we now see the world being plagued by the zombie legions of the Lynch King and the once peaceful world has been consumed by chaos.

The now sorceress Marek needs to lead her group to take a weapon from the Gods to save the world from their enemies.

Chronological Order Of The Mythica Movies

Chronological Order Of The Mythica Movies

The Mythica movies are set in order of their release, so the first movie is followed up by The Darkspore, which is followed by The Necromancer, followed by The Iron Crown, and then finally The Godslayer.

This is the intended order to watch the movies in.

Takeaway

Hopefully this guide will help you when it comes to watching the Mythica movies and make sure you know the correct order to watch them in!

You must have spent the late 2000s living under a rock if you’ve never heard of The Twilight Saga.

It absolutely dominated the cinema screens, and before then the best-selling novels had adolescents everywhere waiting for a handsome mysterious vampire to sneak into their bedroom windows at night.

Twilight Movies In Order A Simple Guide

And if you want the best guide for these movies you couldn’t have come to a better expert on the subject.

I still remember going to the movie theatre with my mum on November 16th for a non-stop movie marathon day that ended with the midnight showing of Breaking Dawn Part One.

Every poster donned my walls, cardboard cut-outs stood beside my bed, and every replica of memorabilia was purchased. I guess you could call me a pretty hardcore Twi-Hard.

And I cannot wait to take you on this cinematic journey.

So whether you’re like me, and are setting up that movie marathon for a nostalgic blast from the past, or are stumbling upon the franchise with fresh eyes (I cannot tell you how jealous I am, what I wouldn’t give to watch these again for the first time) I’m going to make sure that you watch these in the best and correct order and have a great time doing so.

Are you Team Edward? Or Team Jacob? Watch these fantastic films, and come back and let me know!

Chronological Or Release Date?

Some movies are not actually released in chronological order, however, The Twilight Saga release dates are all in chronological order, which makes watching the movies in order pretty simple.

However, for those of you that may not be as infatuated (or let’s be honest, completely obsessed) with the franchise like me, you may not actually know the order in which these movies should be watched just from their names.

Below you’ll find a list of the correct watching order:

  1. Twilight – Released in 2008
  2. The Twilight Saga: New Moon – Released in 2009
  3. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – Released in 2010
  4. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One – Released in 2011
  5. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two – Released in 2012

How Long Will It Take To Watch The Entire Twilight Saga

If you’re hoping to watch the entire saga, it’ll take you a total of 10 hours and 8 minutes (608 minutes) to binge the lot, given that you have no toilet or snack breaks.

Realistically, I’d say your looking at around an 11 hour to 12 hour stint to watch the entire lot.

So you may want to watch a movie per night, but if you pop a Redbull or two its definitely possible to have a werewolf and vampire-tastic day. I know this because I’ve done it myself.

Movie Breakdowns (Don’t Worry No Spoilers)

Movie Breakdowns (Don’t Worry No Spoilers)

Now that we know the correct order to binge this fantastic series in, let’s take a more detailed look at what you can expect to see.

Twilight

Released November 20th, 2008. Runtime: 122 minutes. Rating: PG-13, Director: Catherine Hardwicke

Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) moves to Forks to be with father, and Cheif of Police, Charlie Swan. The 17-year old soon becomes infatuated with the mysterious and devistatingly handsome outcast (and ‘vegan’ vampire) Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but soon comes to realize that unlike the town there is nothing mundane and boring about this boy.

Bella soon comes to realize that there’s more truth behind all those all old tales of mythical monsters and is thrown into a world that was beyond her wildest imagination.

But this is no average love story, not when the boy she desires, desires much more than her company.

Despite, the obvious trials and tribulations that come with falling for a vampire, there is much more drama to come throughout the movie.

Not every vampire she’ll meet will be as ‘good’ as the Cullens, and her proximity to the clan buts her life in great danger when they encounter an evil coven.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

Released November 18th, 2009. Runtime: 131 minutes. Rating: PG-13, Director: Chris Weitz

In the second movie, Bella is feeling anxious about turning 18 while her sexy unaging vampire boyfriend stays perfectly 17.

But while the vampire family celebrate Bella’s birthday, the brooding boyfriends worst nightmare soon becomes a reality as Bella’s safety is put in jeopardy again.

In a gut-wrenching moment, her protector and love of her life disappears from the constant cover of clouds and rain which is forks. But forgetting a love this strong is no easy feat, and Bella is left alone, broken and unable to mend.

Throughout this movie, you’ll say goodbye to Edward Cullen (cry), and hello to soon-to-be werewolf Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner.) But, again, the young girl soon realizes that in this town, all is not as it seems, and neither are the people.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Released 23rd June, 2010. Runtime: 124 minutes. Rating: PG-13. Director: David Slade

You’ll be happy to hear that the sexy vampire returns in the third installment of the saga. But is it too little to late? The scars of Edwards absence we’re stitched back together with Jacobs love, and now Bella has a big decision to make.

However, a string of mysterious killings happening close to the town threaten Bella’s protection, and the two enemies (Jacob and Edward) must form an unlikely alliance to keep her safe.

But who will she choose?

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One

Released 16th November, 2011. Runtime: 117 minutes. Rating: PG-13. Director: Bill Condon

Part One of Breaking Dawn focuses on Bella’s wedding and honeymoon! But the feud between the two most important boys of her life was not quashed by their alliance in the previous installment.

And when it becomes apparent that Bella intends to have a real honeymoon while still human, tensions rise between the two supernatural interests.

Scared that she won’t survive the ordeal, the animosity between the two boys rises to the highest levels yet.

And while Bella does survive the honeymoon, it’s not long before a much more serious problem arises as she falls pregnant.

Can a fragile human carry the supernatural child to full-term? Neither boy is so sure, but Bella is adamant to go throug with the pregnancy.

This causes further friction between the pack and coven, but both boys stand firm in their protection of Bella. But will it be enough? Will Bella and baby survive?

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two

Released 13th November, 2012. Runtime: 115 minutes. Rating: PG-13. Director: Bill Condon

Bella stumbles into a whole new life in the final installment of The Twilight Saga as she leaves her human-self behind as an essential supernatural transformation saves her from death.

But Bella isn’t given much time to adjust to supernatural life or motherhood, as danger rears its ugly head once again.

In the biggest battle yet, both vampires and werewolves alike must scour the entire planet for allies to protect not only Bella and her baby, but them all.

In this last epic fight will their be any survivors?

The Book(s) That Never Made It To The Screen

All my real Twi-hard fans will know that while there are only four Twilight books that made their way to the big screen, the stories didn’t stop there. The plot did, sort of.

Unfortunately, we will never know how the rest of forever plays out for Bella, Edward, or Jacob. However if you’ve watched all these films and are desperate for more of a Twilight fix, then there’s plenty of books to go at.

Of course, you’ll need to read the four book installments of the Saga first. And what a wonder they are, there is so much extra detail that you can delve into.

But once you’ve torn through those pages, I do have a few more recommendations for you.

The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner

While this doesn’t really focus on the love triangle we have all grown to adore, it does delve further into the vampire-world.

In this book Stephenie Meyer tells the story of newborn vampire Bree Tanner who we meet in the third installment (Eclipse.)

Life And Death: Twilight Reimagined

This novella swaps the genders in the orginal book, and instead male human Beau is introduced to female vampire Edythe Cullen. The book has that Twilight feel but is something unique and different

Midnight Sun

Midnight Sun was finally released in 2020 and it was every Twi-Hard’s dream. Midnight Sun is the first book written from Edwards point of view, and I can promise that it definitely does not disappoint.

A snippet of the book was first leaked all the way back in 2008. Meyer officially released the leaked snippet to allow fans to read it guilt-free, but said that due to the leak she would not continue with the story.

So of course, when it was finally released in 2020, it reignited the love for the franchise for many adoring fans a massive 12 years later.

None of these books ever made it to the cinema screen, and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they ever will. Many fans (including myself) were desperate for Meyer to write the whole saga from Edwards point of view, but the author has said that that is where the story officially ends. Sigh.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve never watched this super-popular franchise, then you need to immediately abandon what you’re doing and get that popcorn cooking.

I can ensure you that the films will ignite a deep passion and obsession within you and you certainly won’t be disappointed.

When you’ve finished don’t despair, Meyer does have one more movie that made it to the big screen, although this isn’t part of the Twilight story.

The Host, also about supernatural love, is another very popular book that made it to motion picture, so be sure to give that a try next!

Despite the rising popularity of streaming services, people still love to rent their movies physically all over the United States.

One of the most popular ways to do this is through the entertainment rental service Redbox, which has been famous in America since its founding all the way back in 2002.

Redbox Prices - Movies & Games

The reason that Redbox has been so successful is because of how easy it is to use, with thousands of their easy access kiosks all over the United States offering up physical video rentals.

We all know how easy it is to get a candy bar from a vending machine, and Redbox is the same – except you’re getting a movie out of the machine instead!

Better yet, these conveniently-located kiosks offer low and affordable prices for the rentals. But what are these prices?

Well, we’ve got the answers for you. In our handy guide below, we’ve got a complete guide to Redbox’s prices for each of their rental formats.

Read on!

Redbox Prices – Movies & Games

When it comes to renting movies from Redbox, they offer three different formats. For a long time, it was primarily DVD and Blu-ray formats that you could rent, because these were the only two physical video formats that were relevant.

However, Redbox has moved with the times, because it now also offers 4k UHD movies too. This relatively new format is the next step up from Blu-ray, offering an even greater quality of image with a higher resolution.

Naturally, 4k UHD rentals cost slightly more per day than DVD and Blu-ray, because the format is a much higher quality. With that being said, it’s still a lot cheaper than buying the 4K UHD yourself!

Below is a table of the different prices for each of these formats when you rent them from Redbox.

Video Format Rental Price (per day)
DVD$1.99
Blu-ray$1.99
4k UHD$2.50

Redbox Video Game Rentals

You will notice that we haven’t listed video game rentals on this table. The reason for this is that Redbox no longer rents out video games, though they used to. This was an incredibly useful service, too, letting gamers try the latest releases for much less.

After all, video games typically cost $50 when they’re new, and yet you can often finish them in a few days. Therefore, it’s much cheaper to rent them for a few nights than actually buy them.

When Redbox offered video game rental, you could expect to pay $3 to rent each game for a day. This means that you could probably complete a new video game for just $9, saving lots of money. However, Redbox stopped offering video game rentals in 2019.

Redbox originally started offering video game rentals in late 2010, trialing the scheme in a few American cities.

The trial succeeded, because Redbox expanded video game rentals nationwide in 2011, offering games from the major platforms at the time. When this began, it would only cost users $2 to rent a video game for a day.

When the next console generations released a few years later around 2013, Redbox updated their selections to include them too, keeping up with user interests.

This meant that you could rent PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and even Nintendo Switch titles at some locations.

However, despite the popularity of their video game rentals over the years, Redbox decided to discontinue them at the end of 2019. This was done so that the company could focus exclusively on renting out movies.

A History Of Redbox

A History Of Redbox

We’ve already looked at a little bit of Redbox’s history when it comes to renting video games, but what about the rest of their 20 year career? Well, read on…

Beginnings

Fascinatingly, Redbox actually began as part of McDonald’s. Yep, that’s right, we have the famous fast food chain to thank for the best movie rental scheme in the United States!

When it began, way back in 2002, the Redbox kiosks actually sold convenience store products – not movies.

However, in 2003, McDonald’s decided to use the Redbox kiosks for renting DVDs instead (Blu-rays didn’t exist yet). This was tested in Denver in 2004 and was successful, with Redbox expanding all over America.

Their kiosks rented out a wide range of DVDs, capitalizing on the wealth of entertainment releases out there.

Early Successes

Redbox became very popular, very quickly. This was down to its low prices, range of different things to rent, and ease of access.

Rentals were extremely easy to get from the kiosks, which were available in many locations across America, and they were just as easy to return – you didn’t have to return it to the kiosk you got it from, you could return it to any Redbox kiosk.

In 2005, Coinstar bought almost half of the company from McDonald’s, and then bought out the rest of it in 2009.

Though physical rental stores were closing down rapidly, Redbox smartly placed its kiosks into places like supermarkets, allowing its audience to continue getting to them easily.

In 2007, Redbox had more kiosks than Blockbuster. Better yet, Redbox surpassed 100 million overall rentals in 2008. Pretty impressive, right? Well, just two years later, they passed 1 billion total rentals.

Blu-Rays And Video Games

In 2010, Redbox began renting out Blu-ray movies from their kiosk too. Soon after, in 2011, they began renting out video games too.

This was a pair of intelligent moves for the company. Blu-rays were becoming increasingly popular, offering better quality than DVD, while video games were always popular and would attract gamers for their fantastic rental value.

The company grew and grew, and by the end of 2012, Redbox had more than 42,000 different rental kiosks – at over 34,000 locations.

Declining Sales And Redbox On Demand

Streaming movies became popular around 2015, and has continued to grow in popularity. This meant that fewer people were renting physical movies, which meant that Redbox had a decline in rentals.

On top of that, Redbox stopped renting out video games in 2019.

This steady decline has continued to this day, as streaming becomes even more popular each year. However, Redbox is still around, and is doing well enough to keep operating. This is thanks to physical media lovers and Redbox’s consistently cheap rental fees.

Interestingly, Redbox actually did jump on the streaming bandwagon in 2017. With Redbox On Demand, users can rent movies from Redbox over the internet, streaming the videos.

Redbox offering this alongside their physical rentals has given users a good amount of choice, which has kept them in business too.

What Are Redbox Perks?

During their history, Redbox has offered loyalty programs to keep customers coming back for more. Their most recent customer loyalty scheme is “Redbox Perks”.

With this loyalty program, Redbox users earn points for each movie rental or purchase they make. For example, if you rent a DVD for a night then you get 100 points, while a Blu-ray rented for a day will net you 125 points.

Redbox users can then spend these points on new rentals and purchases, getting something back from their continued spending and loyalty.

Previous Rental Prices

Redbox’s rental prices have changed over time.

Between 2002 and 2009, a DVD rental would cost $1 per day. In 2010-2011, DVDs cost the same, while Blu-rays cost $1.50 and video games cost $2.

From 2012-2014, Blu-ray and video game fees remained the same, but DVD daily rentals went up to $1.20. From 2015, DVDs were $1.50, Blu-rays were $2 and video games were $3.

By 2022, DVDs and Blu-rays were both $1.99, while new 4K UHD formats cost $2.50 per day.

Final Thoughts

Redbox remains a popular movie rental service in the United States – use our article to find out rental prices!

The Seven Dwarfs (of Snow White fame… obvs) are known the world over by people of all ages and walks of life, but mostly only as a conglomerate entity.

People who know these characters individually are few and far between.

7 Dwarfs Names: The Ultimate Guide

It doesn’t help that these little guys all wear basically the same clothes and all – bar one – have big white beards… funnily enough, they’re all round about the same height too, but these are pivotal characters we’re talking about here.

So, let’s pay them the respect they deserve by learning their names and a few other interesting tidbits.

The Names Of The 7 Dwarfs

The names of the dwarves in the Disney rendition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are as follows…

  • Bashful
  • Doc
  • Dopey
  • Grumpy
  • Happy
  • Sleepy
  • Sneezy

… But did you know that the dwarves of this classic fairy tale have had a number of different names?

In fact, even Mr. Walt Disney himself had some different names in mind for the dwarfs initially.

If the folks over at Disney hadn’t done any revisions, the dwarfs that we know and love would actually be referred to as…

  • Jumpy
  • Lazy
  • Puffy
  • Burpy
  • Stuffy
  • Wheezy
  • Deafy

… Yes, that’s right, people… Deafy.

Thankfully, the folks over at Disney started spitballin’ in the office, had a little workaround, and settled on the much more appropriate names in the first list.

The Seven Dwarfs In More Detail

Okay, so now we know their names (and their could-have-been names to boot), let’s dig a little deeper and get to know each of the seven dwarfs.

Dwarf #1: Bashful

Bashful is a lovable dwarf indeed.

He’s the shy member of the infamous troop, which explains why he’s always nervously twiddling his fingers, flexing a knee inwards, tying his beard in knots, and blushing.

In the 1937 Disney film, he can be identified by his blue hat, yellow tunic, and red pants.

He also has some pretty arresting fluttery eyelashes, so you’ll spot him for sure next time you snuggle up and pop this Disney classic on the box.

Dwarf #2: Doc

Next up we have the not so shy Doc, an intelligent leader of men with many years of experience dwarfin’ under his black belt.

As the only member of the gang that wears glasses, he’s one of the easiest to spot, especially since he has lots of lines in the movie.

You can also tell this sage apart from the rest by his red shirt and yellow hat combo, and, of course, his bossy attitude, which isn’t a fantastic personality trait, but let’s face it… this ragtag gaggle of jokers need some guidance and structure.

Dwarf #3: Dopey

Everyone’s favorite dwarf, Dopey, is the baby of the bunch, and you can tell as much by the stark bald head oft-revealed by the slipping of his too-big, purple hat.

He’s also the only dwarf without a beard.

If that wasn’t enough to differentiate Dopey from the rest of the gang, he has an oversized tunic and is the only dwarf whose ears you can see, and they are HUGE — We’re talking Dumbo grade lugs here, folks!

His nose, on the other hand, in stark contrast to the honkers we see on the faces of his six pals, is a cute, little button.

Dwarf #4: Grumpy

Something of an antihero, Grumpy is positioned antagonistically to Doc. He wears a red tunic, a brown hat, and a perpetual scowl.

Arguing and complaining is his bread and butter, which makes him a little hard to love, but underneath it all, he has a very big, warm heart; he just refuses to show it — Who hurt you, Grumpy?

He has just as much of a sweet spot for Snow White as his buddies, but he keeps it under wraps, betraying his facade only once, as he steals a furtive glance at Snow White after she lays one on him.

In the end (spoiler alert), he redeems his bad attitude by leading the offensive against the evil witch!

Dwarf #5: Happy

Happy is the only dwarf that has what I’d describe as child-bearing hips.

He’s a chunky boy with a big heart and an even bigger smile, one that almost never leaves his face.

He’s enthusiastic, optimistic, and loving, and if you still can’t tell him apart from the others, look out for his rather fetching sky-blue pants.

Dwarf #6: Sleepy

Needless to say, sleepy is the one with the half-closed eyelids and saggy eye bags. He also has a slightly sickly complexion and droopy cheeks.

Something of a narcoleptic, he drifts off to the land of nod at the drop of a hat. It doesn’t matter where he is or what’s going on…

Sleepy needs to sling some ZZZs! Sleepy is the dwarf that I can relate to most, and I’m sure it’s the same for you.

He gets to doze his days away without a care, and that forest green slouch hat is on fleek!

Dwarf #7: Sneezy

Sneezy is white as a sheet and can’t stop… you’ve guessed it, sneezing. The man is clearly not well, but his crew don’t seem to give a single hoot.

They all hang out regardless, although being that Sneezy always lets a honk loose in the worst possible situations, they probably regret their social decisions on the regular.

Sneezy wears a butter-yellow hat, a tan tunic, and brown pants, all of which are no doubt positively Jackson Pollocked with snot.

Synopsis

In an attempt to hide from her evil stepmother, Snow White takes up residence in an old cottage in the Enchanted Forest.

Little does our heroine know that seven dwarfs live in this cottage, and when they return home from a day down the mine, they find her sleeping in one of their beds.

Snow White then keeps house for the dwarfs when they head out to work, and all is well until her evil stepmother knocks at the door in disguise and tricks Snow White into taking a bite out of a poison apple.

The protagonist then falls into a deep slumber, which, in a nod to Shakespeare’s infamous play, Romeo & Juliet is mistaken as death.

The dwarfs lay her down to rest in a glass coffin where she remains until a prince happens upon her and wakes her with “true love’s first kiss”.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do The Seven Dwarfs Have A Leader?

Although it’s never stated out right, it’s clear that Doc is the leader of the dwarfs, although, despite his wisdom, his indecisiveness limits his abilities to guide the others.

Are The Seven Dwarfs Related?

In the 1937 Disney film, the dwarfs are only referred to as companions, so we can assume they’re not related; however, in other renditions of this classic fairy tale, they’re presented as siblings.

Which Of The Seven Dwarfs Is The Oldest?

Doc is thought to be the eldest of the seven dwarfs, which is partly why he’s their leader.

How Do The Seven Dwarfs Stack Up In Terms Of Age?

Here’s a list of the seven dwarfs from youngest to oldest:

  • Dopey
  • Sneezy
  • Bashful
  • Happy
  • Sleepy
  • Grumpy
  • Doc

Does Snow White Have A Favorite Dwarf?

Dopey’s innocent and fun-loving nature quickly earns him a place in Snow White’s heart.

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs: The Original Brothers Grimm Version

Snow White started out as one of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales compiled in the 1812 publication, Children’s and Household Tales, with the original German title of Sneewittchen.

The tale itself unfolds in much the same way, albeit with a few key divergences.

After a threat on her life, Snow White flees from her evil stepmother and finds refuge in the house of the seven dwarfs.

Still not safe, she leaves the house of the dwarfs and continues her life on the run, so the nefarious queen shifts the focus of her ire to Snow White’s husband, poisoning him

Snow White then returns from hiding to save her husband.

A much more empowering story for girls and women, this prototypical version was in part an analogy for the industrialization of Germany, with the dwarfs representing the oppressed working classes.

The order to kill Snow White, given by the queen to the huntsman, is also class-based commentary, highlighting the powerlessness of the working classes.

The seven dwarfs didn’t have names in the original version.

It took decades of iterations before they’d win their individuality and finally get their fair share of the limelight.

Final Thoughts

Not only do you now know the names of the seven dwarfs, you have an encyclopedic knowledge of the Snow White tale and the role they play within it.

As the dwarf with the most layers, I think Grumpy is my favorite. Which dwarf do you like best?

We reenter Narnia with the world struck with war and chaos has retuned to the land.

The four siblings are led to join forces with Prince Caspian who is played by Ben Barnes as they have to fight and dethrone the evil King Miraz being played by Sergio Castellitto who is responsible for the destruction the world of Narnia has faced.

The third installment in the Shrek movie series was released in May 2007 and also runs for 93 minutes. It has a much poorer critical reception than its 2 predecessors with 42% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 6.1 on IMDB, and a 58 on Metacritic.

Movie Description

In the third story in the Shrek main series the movie begins with Fiona’s father King Harold voiced by John Cleese passing away and leaving Shrek to rule Far Far Away in his stead as king.

This is obviously not a role which Shrek wants to play and this leads him to have to find an heir for the throne which he does not want to have.

This is when we meet Fiona’s lazy cousin named Artie who is voiced by Justin Timberlake who is a just a teenager in a medieval spin on high school.

This means that Shrek, and Donkey, joined with Puss in Boots have to go on an extended quest to reach Fiona’s cousin and bring him back to rule in the kingdom. Of course the quest is nowhere near as simple as first expected.

Shrek Forever After

Details About This Movie

This most recent entry in the Shrek series follows the series trend of being released in May, 3 years after the previous entry in 2010. It also runs for 93 minutes.

On average this movie scores a little better than its prior entry getting a more generous 58% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 6.3 on IMDB and finally a 58 on MetaCritic.

Movie Description

We join this movie seeing Shrek fully settled living his married life with Fiona and now acting thoroughly un-ogre-like.

He has fully moved on from the life he used to live and instead functions as a father, but of course this leads him to miss the life he once lived and wishes to go back to this time when he felt like he was actually an ogre.

This leads to Shrek getting quite easily tricked by Rumpelstiltskin voice by Walt Dohrn who convinces Shrek to sign a contract which ends up causing big trouble for the ogre.

This leads the ogre to be forced to live in an alternate reality where Rumpelstiltskin has started ruling over Far Far Away. In this reality ogres are violently hunted and in this life Shrek never even got the chance to marry his wife Fiona.

This leads Shrek to need to find a way to get the contract gone and return to the old life he once led, so he can reunite with the old Fiona.

Shrek 5

There has long been rumors about a sequel to Shrek Forever After or at least some mainline continuation of the series.

We know that the studio is still interested in the universe with Puss In Boots getting his own movie released soon, but where does this leave the rest of the characters?

We have been hearing multiple rumors about the future of the series, and it has been a long time since the previous entry, so it is very easy to lose hope.

Especially since the series had such a downward trajectory since after the second entry, we can understand why the series was left where it was for a while.

However, Shrek has maintained its cultural relevance, and with the child audience of the original movies now growing up and becoming nostalgic, there is almost no better time to return to this series.

There has been some talk that a return to the Shrek movies would be a reboot of the series and this is understandable. Especially with how confused the lore of the series became after the second movie.

Many details and character developments were kept and canonized between entries, and this led to some of the later movies getting a bit confused, especially for a younger audience who likely do not have the attention span for keeping up with each character’s development over a multi movie series.

A reboot could be exactly what this series needs with the older generation getting to return to the characters which they love in an interesting setting, as well as being able to attract a younger audience who never even watched the original series.

There have also been talks that the series would not be an entire reboot but instead a partial reboot following on from the second movie.

This would make the most sense since the first two movies are the most beloved and the plot developments within them are enjoyed by most.

They also leave the door open for the narrative to be continued in any direction, and the series could choose to completely forget the potential missteps made by the two more recent movies.

However, it would be unfair to overlook that some people do enjoy the third and fourth movies, however they are generally in the minority, especially compared to the success of the first two.

Whichever direction the Shrek movies decide to go in, there is a certain level of a guaranteed audience, so it is likely that we will be seeing this series back on the big screen at some point in the future, we just do not know how soon yet.

Chronological Order Of The Shrek Movies

So far all the Shrek mainline movies are in chronological order. Shrek (2001) is followed by Shrek 2, which is then followed by Shrek The Third, and then concludes with Shrek Forever After.

While the most recent movie does dabble in parallel realities, this is not done to the extent to mess with the timeline of the series. As long as you watch the movies in order you will be able to understand the narrative.

With the spin-offs, there are mixed opinions over whether these are canonical. If you want to watch everything, the best thing to do is watch them in order of release.

This way you will not have any new character introduced to you in the wrong order. These movies and specials for the most part have no impact on the rest of the series, however they do occasionally allude to developments from the main movies.

Shrek Spin Offs

  • The Adventures of Puss in Boots
  • Donkey’s Christmas Shrektacular
  • Far Far Away Idol

The Transformers movie series have given movie lovers some of the biggest, most explosive action spectacle that cinema has had to offer this century.

Across six films, with a seventh on the way, they’ve served up loads of bombastic action and adventure, as well as some of the most impressive CGI (computer generated imagery) there is.

Transformers Movies In Order The Ultimate Guide

The movies come from the beloved toy series about Transformers, robots in disguise that hide as cars and other vehicles but can actually transform into enormous action-packed robots.

The Transformers movies focus on the war between the Autobots (the good Transformers) and the terrifying Decepticons (the bad Transformers), with the human race getting caught in the middle of their epic battles.

Classic characters like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee help fight for good, while Decepticons like Megatron fight for evil.

However, what order do the Transformers movies come in? When it comes to this question, you might not know the answer. On top of that, there are a few different answers.

Firstly, you can look at the order in which the Transformers movies were released, while on the other hand you can rank the Transformers in order of when their stories are set.

On top of all that, you could also rank the Transformers movies on quality, from best to worst.

We’ve got all these orders in our handy article below! In our ultimate guide, we’ll tell you the Transformers movies in order, ranking them in a variety of different ways.

Additionally, we’ll also look at the plots and casts of each Transformers movie.

Transformers Movies In Order Of When They Take Place

If you want to know the Transformers movies in order of when their stories take place, from first to last, this is it:

  • Bumblebee (set in 1987)
  • Transformers: Rise Of The Beast (likely to be set in the 1990s)
  • Transformers (set in 2007)
  • Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (set in 2009)
  • Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (set in 2012)
  • Transformers: Age Of Extinction (set in 2017)
  • Transformers: The Last Knight (set in 2018)

It’s as easy as that! It’s always fun to watch an entire movie series in their chronological order, seeing the on screen history pass over time and keeping everything neatly in order.

By following this list, you can track the history of the Transformers, seeing their time on Earth progress.

We’ll have all the information on what happens in these films later on in our ultimate guide, with descriptions of the plots and a look at the cast.

On top of that, we’ll also look at how well the Transformers movies were received by both critics and audiences.

Transformers Movies In Order Of When They Were Released

If you want to watch the Transformers movies in the oreder of their release dates, then the following list is the one that you should use.

Though their stories won’t all follow chronologically, it’s fun to watch the Transformers movies from the first live-action one that was made to the most recent.

As you watch the Transformers movies in release date order, you can see how the style of each movie might change, as well as the cast.

On top of that, you should be able to see the CGI effects get better and better as time goes on and the technology grows more advanced. Maybe one day it’ll even be advanced as an Autobot itself!

Here’s the list of the Transformers movies in the order of when they were released:

  • Transformers (released in 2007)
  • Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (released in 2009)
  • Transformers: Dark of The Moon (released in 2011)
  • Transformers: Age Of Extinction (released in 2014)
  • Transformers: The Last Knight (released in 2017)
  • Bumblebee (released in 2018)
  • Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts (should be released in 2023)

Looking At Each Transformers Movie In Order Of Release Date

Looking At Each Transformers Movie In Order Of Release Date

Now that we’ve looked at the lists of both every Transformers movie in order of their story’s chronology and in the order of when the movies were each released, we’re now going to look at each of the Transformers movies in more depth.

Below, we’re going to breakdown the story of each Transformers movie, as well as look at its cast and characters. On top of that, we’ll also look at how each of them went down with critics and audiences, and how much money they made at the box office.

Transformers (2007)

  • Director: Michael Bay
  • Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro
  • Length: 146 minutes
  • Age rating: PG-13

This was the first live-action Transformers movie, exploding onto the scene with its immense action and incredible CGI.

It was directed by Michael Bay, who already had a name for himself for making some of the most spectacular and explosive action films of the century, with “The Rock” (1996) and “Armageddon” (1998), among others.

The plot of this first Transformers movie set up the famous Transformers themselves, the Autobots and the Decepticons, as well as the epic war between the two factions.

When their war somehow spills onto Earth, the human race is put at risk from all the battling.

The reason that it has come to Earth is because our planet holds the AllSpark, a special artifact that the Autobots wish to reclaim in order to use it to rebuild Cybertron, their home planet.

If the plant is rebuilt, they can end the war with the Decepticons. However, the Decepticons want to get the AllSpark because it will allow them to bring the machines of Earth to life. This will give them an unstoppable army to win their war with.

The human cast includes Shia LaBeouf, a teenager with a connection to the AllSpark, and his classmate crush, played by Megan Fox.

Meanwhile, Peter Cullen voices the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime. He voiced Optimus in the 1980s animated Transformers TV series.

The film made $709 million worldwide. Critics appreciated the impressive action scenes, but weren’t as sold on the human side of the story.

Fans, on the other hand, found it spectacular fun, but initially struggled with some of the Transformer character redesigns.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009)

  • Director: Michael Bay
  • Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro
  • Length: 149 minutes
  • Age rating: PG-13

The sequel again involves Shia LaBeouf and his fellow humans in the war of the Transformers. This time, the Decepticons are looking for a machine on Earth that will allow them to destroy all the Sun and all humankind.

The Autobots and Sam Witwicky must stop their plans and save the planet.

The core cast returned and the film was enormously successful, making $836 million worldwide. Critics didn’t like it as much as the first film, saying that it was too noisy, too long, and too lacking in humanity.

Fans didn’t enjoy it as much either.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (2011)

  • Director: Michael Bay
  • Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro
  • Length: 154 minutes
  • Age rating: PG-13

The next Transformers movie was set four years after the previous one, showing the last days of the battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

This time, the humans and the Autobots are trying to stop the Decepticons from getting hold of powerful technology that has crashed onto our moon.

The core cast is the same again, though Megan Fox didn’t reprise her role as love interest Mikaela Banes this time. Instead, a new romantic interest for Shia LaBeouf’s character came in the form of model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

The film made over a billion dollars worldwide for the first time. The critical response was better than the previous film, but still fairly negative, with critics finding issues with the thin script – but appreciating the impressive CGI.

Clearly fans enjoyed it, though, for it to gross more money than ever before.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction (2014)

  • Director: Michael Bay
  • Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Nicola Peltz
  • Length: 165 minutes
  • Age rating: PG-13

This fourth film in the Transformers series saw the biggest shakeup so far, with an all new cast of human characters.

Mark Wahlberg is the main character now, Cade Yeager (what a name!), while Stanley Tucci plays a tricky businessman who wants to make his own Transformers.

Yeager is joined by his daughter, played by Nicola Peltz, and the small group of humans are sought out by the Transformers for help. Why? The Autobots are being hunted down by a CIA unit and a bounty hunter.

The film again made over a billion dollars worldwide, though the critical response was extremely negative. Critics disliked how long and one-note it was, but clearly fans turned up to cinemas in their millions.

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

  • Director: Michael Bay
  • Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhamel
  • Length: 149 minutes
  • Age rating: PG-13

A direct sequel to the previous Transformers movie, this also brought back a few characters from the original trilogy. The plot brings in some interesting twists to the fight through the use of swords and some dinobot (dinosaur robots).

Optimus Prime is brainwashed and a villain searches for an ancient staff on earth – leaving it up to the humans, Bumblebee, and the other Autobots to stop them.

The film made $605 million worldwide. Though impressive, this was a clear drop from the previous two. Similarly, it became the worst reviewed Transformers movie ever, with critics frustrated with the length and narrative.

Clearly, fans weren’t as excited either, considering the movie made $400 million less than previous entries.

Bumblebee (2018)

  • Director: Travis Knight
  • Cast: Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr.
  • Length: 114 minutes
  • Age rating: PG-13

From the worst Transformers movie to the best! “Bumblebee” was a reboot of sorts for the series, taking events back to 1980s San Francisco and toning down the bombastic action to be not quite as headache-heavy.

On top of that, the runtime was also cut down to a more manageable length, and better focus put on developing likable and interesting human characters to spend time with.

The plot is set during the Cybotron Civil War, with Optimus Prime sending Bumblebee (not yet named that) to Earth to make a base for the Autobots.

While there, the Transformer becomes friends with a girl named Charlie (Steinfeld), who gives him the name Bumblebee.

As you can tell, there’s more humanity and friendship in this film, and that all led to it becoming the best reviewed Transformers movie of them all.

It made $468 million worldwide, which may not compare with other Transformers movies, but it was clearly putting the franchise in a direction of much higher quality. Fans and critics alike enjoyed the film a lot.

Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts (2023)

  • Director: Steven Caple Jr.
  • Cast: Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Vélez
  • Length: TBC
  • Age rating: TBC

With “Bumblebee” putting the Transformers movies on a positive course again, this upcoming film is a sequel of sorts to it.

Set in 1994, it’s about two human archaeologists who get caught up in an ancient Transformers conflict that includes three different Transformer factions: the Predacons, the Maximals, and the Terrorcons.

It’s likely to do well money-wise, and if “Bumblebee” is anything to go by, the film should go down well with both critics and fans.

Transformers Movies In Order Of Best To Worst

  1. Bumblebee (2018)
  2. Transformers (2007)
  3. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon (2011)
  4. Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (2009)
  5. Transformers: Age Of Extinction (2014)
  6. Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

Why Isn’t Shia LaBeouf In Transformers Anymore?

Shia LaBeouf left the Transformers franchise after three movies because he felt that his character’s story was complete. Without him, the series could explore new human characters and stories.

Final Thoughts

Over six movies, the Transformers franchise has made billions of dollars. While not every movie has been met with critical acclaim, there’s no denying that the series is enormously popular with audiences, and full of impressive CGI.

Use our ultimate guide to watch them in order – chronologically or by release date.

From the moment a strange, bullet ridden man was first discovered floating in the Mediterranean Sea, many of us were hooked on the story of Jason Bourne.

The tense film series delivered endless action among complex questions of identity and memory, plus some of cinema’s best chase scenes.

Bourne Movies In Order #1 Watch Guide

If you’ve never seen the Bourne movies before, then you might be wondering where to start. Jason Bourne is a man suffering from some serious memory loss, and jumping in at the wrong point will leave you just as confused!

Read on to find the ultimate watch guide for enjoying the Bourne movies in order.

Bourne Movies By Release Date

The Bourne Identity (2002)

  • Release: June 14th, 2002
  • Directed by: Doug Liman
  • Starring: Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox
  • Running Time: 119 minutes
  • Rating: PG-13

About The Bourne Identity

A man (Matt Damon) adrift in the Mediterranean Sea is rescued by Italian fishermen. He has two bullet wounds in his back, a remarkable fluency in several languages, skills in advanced combat, and no memory of who he is.

A laser projector in his hip leads the man to a Swiss safe deposit box, where he finds money, a gun, and a name: Jason Bourne.

It isn’t long before Bourne discovers his life is in danger. Fighting to evade the CIA agents who are chasing him down, Bourne is aided in his escape by Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente), although she now finds herself in the firing line as well.

But as the situation escalates, the question of who Jason Bourne is becomes even more pressing, particularly as he appears to have been embroiled in a high profile assassination attempt.

On its initial release, The Bourne Identity was a refreshing burst of gritty action in a genre that had become overly polished in the previous years.

Intensely engaging, the low budget feel blended with the quality set pieces made The Bourne Identity a hit. Intelligent without being complex, the tough edge and shaky camerawork gave much-needed realism to a potentially farfetched storyline.

Begin your Bourne watch with The Bourne Identity, to see exactly why the film series became the phenomenon it did.

The Bourne Supremacy (2004)

  • Release: July 23rd, 2004
  • Directed by: Paul Greengrass
  • Starring: Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Joan Allen, Brian Cox, Julia Stiles, Karl Urban
  • Running Time: 108 minutes
  • Rating: PG-13

About The Bourne Supremacy

Several years after the events of The Bourne Identity, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) and Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente) are trying to make a life in India.

Bourne still finds himself plagued by flashbacks of his time with the CIA, although gaps in his memory make it hard for him to piece together the truth. Despite that, things are peaceful.

Of course, they can’t stay that way for long. Bourne finds himself mixed up in a botched attack on the CIA when Russian agent Kirill (Karl Urban) attempts to frame him for theft.

Chased down by both the Russians and the CIA, Bourne is forced to rediscover his skills as an assassin when Kirill kills Marie during an attempt to flee.

The Bourne Supremacy follows Bourne as he attempts to both clear his name and find revenge for the murder of Marie.

With action scenes scattered across Europe and North America, Bourne begins to unravel the mystery at the heart of who he is, uncovering exactly what the CIA did to him.

It’s rare for a sequel to live up to the original release, let alone surpass it, but that’s just what The Bourne Supremacy does.

Smarter than The Bourne Identity, the follow-up really pushes the limits of the initial premise. The thrills are intelligently executed, and the high quality cast elevates the action scenes.

The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

  • Release: August 3rd, 2007
  • Directed by: Paul Greengrass
  • Starring: Matt Damon, Edgar Ramírez, Julia Stiles, Joan Allen, David Straithairn
  • Running Time: 115 minutes
  • Rating: PG-13

About The Bourne Ultimatum

Rumors of CIA assassination programs have begun to swirl in the press, as recorded confessions expose the dirty dealings of former Directors.

Left seriously wounded by his run in with Russian agents, and angry from his latest experience with the CIA, Jason Bourne (Damon) is forced to turn to his past.

But the CIA believe some secrets are better left in the dark, and Bourne again finds himself dealing with highly trained assassins intent on silencing him.

When a meeting with a whistleblowing reporter ends in bloodshed, it becomes apparent that for the truth to come out, Bourne will have to rediscover his own CIA-trained talents. Doing so just might reveal the real truth of his history.

Following on from the events of The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum tackles the mystery that started it all: who is Jason Bourne? And why doesn’t he remember?

A ruthless and highly skilled assassin with some serious memory gaps, the mystery of Jason Bourne slowly starts to unravel, as he learns exactly why the CIA are so intent on silencing their former asset.

Again, The Bourne Ultimatum is a sequel that builds upon its predecessor. The fast pace is matched by sharp dialogue and intense plotting, while the gritty realism that defines the series builds to some spectacular action sequences.

Without relying on gimmick, The Bourne Ultimatum makes use of technology to bring a modern slickness to old-school action sequences.

If you’re planning a Bourne watch-party, you’ll want to put this on as soon as the credits roll on the Bourne Supremacy.

The Bourne Legacy (2012)

  • Release: August 8th, 2012
  • Directed by: Tony Gilroy
  • Starring: Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac
  • Running Time: 135 minutes
  • Rating: PG-13

About The Bourne Legacy

The actions of Jason Bourne have had far-reaching consequences, as his attempts to discover more about his own history have turned eyes to the black ops Operations being conducted by the CIA.

Secrets are being exposed on an international scale.

Among them is Operation Outcome, a black ops program that attempted to genetically enhance its subjects. One of many programs initiated and run by Eric Byer (Edward Norton), Operation Outcome is chosen to be terminated in order to save other valuable research programs.

As an agent of Operation Outcome, Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) finds himself the target of an assassination attempt. On the run for his life, he teams up with Dr. Maria Shearing (Rachel Weisz), a physician involved in Outcome.

But it’s more than just CIA killers that threaten Cross: adrift from the program, he doesn’t have access to the medications needed to keep up his enhancements.

With a new cast and a new storyline, The Bourne Legacy is less a follow-up to the initial trilogy, and more of an expansion of the universe. Jason Bourne is only mentioned by proxy, and Matt Damon doesn’t show up at all.

However, the Bourne Legacy is an exciting addition to the Bourne canon. It lacks some of the gripping magnetism of the first trilogy, but provides a thrilling and enjoyable side note.

Watch after the first three movies to expand your knowledge of the Bourne universe.

Jason Bourne (2016)

  • Release: July 29th, 2016
  • Directed by: Paul Greengrass
  • Starring: Matt Damon, Tommy Lee Jones, Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel
  • Running Time: 123 minutes
  • Rating: PG-13

About Jason Bourne

Bourne is back! 10 years on from his escape in the East River, Jason Bourne (a returning Matt Damon) finds himself once again drawn into the murky dealings of the CIA.

A decade has passed since Bourne discovered and uncovered the CIA-led Operation Blackbear, and in the years since he has regained his memories, and attempted to retreat from the world.

But new attempts to expose black ops programs have put Bourne at risk, and the CIA are trying again to draw him into the fold. Bourne finds himself forced to leave his quiet life, and fight to survive once again.

Fighting against the very people who created him, Bourne discovers secrets from his past that have remained buried until now. As well as the true intentions of the agents who are hot on his trail.

Jason Bourne brings Bourne back at his best, once again a tightly wound former CIA assassin with a grudge and a threat against his life.

With the same tense plotting of earlier Bourne movies, Jason Bourne explores the motivations of the CIA operatives who refuse to let things go.

Jason Bourne is enjoyable, even if it doesn’t do much to build on the original trilogy. Watch it after The Bourne Legacy, or dive straight in when you’ve finished The Bourne Ultimatum, and settle Jason Bourne’s story entirely.
